Getting Your Head In The Game – Weight Loss

Howdy.

Getting your desired body shape is something we all think about, but not all of us act on it.

It is hard, there is no denying that, but impossible?

Hell to the no, sister.

As soon as someone finds out that I have a personal training background, they want to ask me every question under the sun.

‘Should I eat carbs after 7pm?’

‘How do I use weights?’

‘Will protein make me big?’

Some of the questions make me want to laugh because they are so stupid. But who am I to judge? I was there before too. I didn’t know a carb from a protein to save my life, (and if you don’t know either, don’t sweat it) and I was so afraid of using the weight’s, I couldn’t bare to ask for help, even though I knew they are good for you.

So I am here to give you a few pointers and tips on getting your head in the game for getting that body you always wanted. It is easy to go workout but it is hard to be prepared and mentally ready.

Numero one.

Always ask for help. Always.

gym

Are you a member of a gym? Have an older brother/boyfriend/gym enthusiast friend? Ask them whatever you need to. Just get help because knowledge is the key to being successful when working out.

I drove my boyfriend nuts before I gained experience. I am naturally curious and I always need to know the way things work. It wasn’t enough for him to tell me to go use the weights because they are good for me, I need to know how and why they are good for me. As soon as I understood the logic and physical reasons behind the weights I was hooked.

It’s that simple.

The less you know the less you are willing to try. If you don’t know why you are told to drink 8 glasses of water a day, you won’t stick to it too long because you don’t have the benefits motivating to keep you going.

Numero two.

If your not 100% don’t waste your time or anyone else’s.

gyym

The journey of weight loss or toning up is not a walk in the park, it’s a marathon. You can’t walk into the gym or go for a run twice a week and expect to see results in a week.

Results come with hard work and hard work means dedication.

Don’t go asking for help from a friend or gym instructor if you are going to throw it back in their face. You don’t just decide to change your life,

you commit.

Changing your body is changing your life, end of.

Numero three.

80% Diet 20% Exercise

ggym

This is the hardest thing to get through to people, and it was the hardest part for me to accept myself. You cannot out-train a bad diet, the same way you can’t eat well and sit on your bum and expect your body to be amazing.

The two work hand in hand, but diet is the leader.

You need to perfect your diet before you even think of stepping foot in a gym or outside to work out. If you are serious, I would suggest investing in a tailored personal diet from a trainer. These work best and are 100% guaranteed to work if you stick to it right.

Work on perfecting your diet and eating clean first, then slowly introduce the gym. It is a fool-proof method that works great.

Numero four.

Don’t be afraid to commit.

large (2)

I know this is a big issue with women in particular. We ladies see ourselves as ‘manly’ or ‘unfeminine’ if we commit to the gym 5 days a week. I know because I fought with it myself. It is very easy to fall in love with working out but you have to let yourself first.

I would suggest becoming comfortable with your gym first. Go in on a quiet day and get to know the machines and equipment. If you don’t know yourself, get a tour, trainers in the gym love to show people around and ask them as much as you want, they don’t mind at all!

When you are comfortable in there just do your thing. Put in your headphones and do what you need to do. Don’t look at other people and certainly don’t feel insecure. Don’t be afraid to talk about your new found love to your friends, they wont see you as manly they will envy you. Believe me, I had this issue with my own friends, and you know what? They have followed me and are now new found gym lovers too!

Numero five.

Invest in a proper work-out.

large (3)

Your work-out is your key to your new home. When you go into the gym you need to know what you are doing and how to do it. Don’t take some silly workout you found on pinterest and think it will get you instant results.

Not saying all workouts on pinterest are crap, but the majority are. Just saying.

When you have a regular workout that changes and improves with you every week then your journey feels so much easier. The hour you spend in there will fly by and you will feel accomplished. It always works, without fail.

Numero six.

Once you have committed, it is your responsibility.

Michelle Hayden Shooting A TV Commercial In Beverly Hills

You have to tell yourself when it is getting a bit tough, that this is your life, nobody else’s.

Do you think anyone else cares if you stay overweight or out of shape for the rest of your life?

Of course they don’t.

This is your body, your life and your responsibility. If you decide to pack it in half way through, then that is your issue, don’t blame anyone else, and when you succeed and come out looking amazing, it was you who did it, nobody else.

So I hope if you are looking to embark on a life changing journey (that sounds deep) then I hope I helped! Please leave a comment or email me if you have any questions. I have gone through this myself so I would be more than happy to offer advice to you if you need it!

Real Skin Care Tips & Tricks, From A Real Beauty Therapist

Bonjour.

Skin care is a lot like a rubix cube.

There are so many solutions, yet you can’t seem to even find one?

I am well aware of the hundreds of sites and articles written about how you can cure acne, blemishes, oily skin, BLA BLA BLA! They all claim to do this, that and the other but you just can’t really trust them.

If you have a bad relationship with your skin like me, then I understand your pain. It is hard to get control of your skin.

But,

you can take action and start to take proper care of your skin. Good skincare starts with proper precautions. I will warn you, I do not have any magic tips or solutions to make perfect skin over night. But I do know how to take care of it, the way it was meant to.

And sometimes, proper care is all it takes to change your skin, no fancy potions and lotions needed.

#1 Cleanse not once, but twice!

skin

I don’t mean twice a day, but twice at a time. I do cleansing facials on clients every day, and the number one thing that grosses me out every time, is how much make up and dirt I take off, and they didn’t even have make up on in the first place!

Many people don’t realise how deep down into your skin make up goes. Make up can sit down in your skin for days after you thought you have taken it off!

So always, and I mean always, cleanse twice. Once to take off the make up and dirt, and twice to actually clean the skin. If you have a Clarisonic Mia or something similar, even better. Use that to do the second cleanse to really get down into the skin.

Oh! Always cleanse and tone your neck too!

#2 Allow your skin to breath

sss

Something I always tell my clients after a good cleansing facial is to not wear make up for as long as possible. Make up sinks in and clogs pores which take forever to come up to the surface and be released. Even if you don’t wear make up for months, your skin will still be trying to remove all the extra gunk!

#3 Get a facial once a month

skinnnk

Facials of any kind do wonders for your skin. There are so many types it is hard to know which is best for you, but I would recommend just going for a basic cleanse first. Ask the therapist what he/she thinks would be best for you and try aim for one once a month. The difference it will make in your skin will be amazing!

#4 Invest in good products

sskin

There is a reason why some brands are so cheap and some are so expensive. The best ones are generally more expensive than the basic drug store ones, but that doesnt mean you can’t find drug store products that suit you either!

Brands like Elemis and Clarins are made and designed especially for different skin types. They work. No gimmicks, no extra costs, just buy the products and use them.

I use Elemis, which are a 100% natural brand. No chemicals or alcohol which drives my skin crazy! After using my Elemis range for less than 2 weeks I had people telling me how good my skin looked, and that is no word of a lie!

#5 Take care of your skin while it is good

skinnn

Just because your skin has cleared up doesn’t mean you can slack off. Continue to use your regular products and regime at all times.

#6 You are never too young to prevent ageing

eef17d6ad0c33d31039f9570fd672764

I started using Rentinol A creams when I was 19, not only because my skin was bad, but also because they prevent fine lines and wrinkles.

It is a lot harder to turn back the clock on your skin, so why let it age? Just prevent it, and you won’t have an issue.

Invest in rentinoids and eye creams while you are young and have fresh skin, you will thank yourself in the years to come!

#7 Learn your skin type!

02a5b23e1e68aa7daa6227a2c862455d

I get so many women come to me and tell me before their facial that they have oily/dry/normal skin, and then when I start the facial I begin to realise that they have the exact opposite!

Your skin changes like the weather. Always keep tabs on it and learn how to deal with it. I always have 2 different types of cleansing products at home for dry skin and combination as those are what my skin tends to jump between depending on the time of year, weather and my diet.

So many things can change up your skin type, so take the time and research how to find your skin type and invest the money in a few different products.

#8 Try not to touch your face

38493a234d6f16755c34b46bc3d516fc

When I was in college I found I was getting a lot of breakouts down my cheek bone and on my chin that I usually never got before, and then it clicked.

If you lean on your hand while in class or at work, try put your sleeve over your hand or just don’t lean on your hand at all. The oils and dirt on your hands get deep into your pores and just drive your skin mental!

#9 Find the right exfoliator for you

e24c863044e3fee17d9dda8fc5081249

Every person needs to exfoliate. No matter what your skin type is, all skin sheds and needs to be removed so clean fresh new skin can come up. But not all exfoliators are suited to all skin types.

If you have sensitive skin go for a chemical non abrasive one. Elemis do a great one called Papya Enzyme Peel, it is amazing and really leaves the skin glowing!

For dry – normal skin go for a very fine abrasive one. The finer the grains the more it takes off but without drying out the skin further or causing a rash.

For oily skin you can pretty much go for any type. I find exfoliators with larger grains work great as it takes away shine as well as leaving a healthy glow!

#10 Green tea is your new BFF

7375bbb4ad26a2bad81767a997b350a9

Green tea has been the saviour of my skin. I started drinking 2 – 3 cups a day before christmas last year and it has been amazing for my skin.

Green tea detoxes and gets rid of all the toxins before they make it out through your skin. The tea bags can also be used to reduce under eye circles too! Double whammy!

I hope this helps if you are struggling with your skin! Please leave a comment or email me if you have any questions at all, I will be more than willing to help!

Flying Tips For The Travelling Lady!

Hey you.

Do you fear travelling like the plague? I as hell sure do.

Ugh, all that waiting around, security, smelly people, crying babies.

I cannot deal with it.

But in my last few years of extreme travelling, (Im talking 12 hour flights here, and 8 hour layovers) I have figured a few of my own tips and tricks for making my life easier when up in the air, and down on the ground too!

Number 1.

BE ORGANISED!

I honestly cannot stress this enough. Organisation is the key to a successful and smooth flight. I have a few tips on keeping organised that I use all the time!

traaaaa

  • If you have a journal, write a list of must-haves in the back of it about 2 weeks before you go. Every now and then if you remember something, top it up to your list and a few days before you leave, make sure you have every single thing on that list.

travb

  • Keep all travelling documents and ID in a small bag and put that in an easy to reach part of your handbag, AND KEEP IT THERE! I cannot even count the amount of times I have wasted time stressing over looking for my passport and tickets up at the desk because when I was at security I just threw them back into my bag to rush off. DO NOT rush off, take the extra 5 seconds and put them back in the place they belong!

This one is important so listen carefully.

travv

  • ALWAYS put the exact same name that is on your passport, onto your ticket when buying. I never knew this was an issue until I was about to put my shorter name on my ticket a few weeks back, only my mother spotted me doing it! I was very lucky to say the least! Security will not accept a passport and ticket with different names, no matter how small. John Paul Murphy is not the same as John Murphy in security’s eyes, and they won’t be long letting you know!

travvve

  • Make sure you have no liquids over 100ml in your carry-on. That one’s easy.

trra

  • Always keep spare panties, comfortable sweats and socks in your carry-on. You never know if your flight will be delayed, and you don’t want to be forking out in duty free, or even worse, smelly!

Number 2.

KEEP YOUR WITS ABOUT YOU!

ttraa

Travelling for a long time can really play on your mind and you can begin to go a bit loopy. I was in Heathrow, London last year waiting 5 hours for my flight and I kept having to check the notice board to check what time my gate was opening, every 30 minutes because I was forgetting!

So don’t be me, the fool looking getting up to check the notice board every half hour, just write it down.

I honestly don’t know why I didn’t think of that at the time. *Face palm*

ttraavv

If you have a layover, the minute you get into the terminal, find your gate or the general area of it. Believe me, you do not want to waste time in duty-free and when you realise you have 20 minutes to get to the gate, that you have to take a freaking bus to get there! You do not want to be that girl running for dear life through the terminal, shouldering innocent people and busting your bags off poor children.

Been there, done that. Again, *face palm*

tttR

If you want to buy in duty-free, (who doesn’t?) just keep in mind the amount you are buying. Some airlines will be nice and let you on with 5 duty-free bags, some are mean. So be careful and stuff as much as you can into your carry-on, otherwise they will throw it in the under carriage with the luggage, and we all know that Chanel perfume you bought will get smashed. 😦

Number 3.

ON THE FLIGHT

ttravvv

Planes are ALWAYS chilly. If you are feeling a little warm and sweaty on flight, it is probably because you are a little travel-sick. But for the most part, you will be a little on the chillier side, and if you are on a flight less than 3 hours long, there probably won’t be blankets provided, and even at that, the blankets only get washed when they look dirty.

Yeah, gross right?

So always throw an extra layer into your bag, or else wear it on. It is better to have a comfortable flight than to be shivering and uncomfortable.

traaa

If you don’t mind heights, always get a window seat. The views are distracting and you can easily burn an hour just gazing out the window. It may be a pain if you need to get out to the toilet, but it’s better than staring at the seat in front of you for the whole flight!

tttrraa

I always bring deodorant, a perfume sample, face wipes and moisturiser to freshen up before I land, no matter how long the flight is. There is something about flying that just makes you feel so yucky. Time yourself and get up about 45 minutes before you are scheduled to land. (They don’t let you up in the last 30 minutes) Spray some deodorant and perfume or brush your teeth and get back to your seat and cleanse your face  or apply make-up there.

Trust me, you will feel a million dollars when freshened up.

Quick tip: If you are on a long flight ( 6+ hours) bring an energy booster tablet, like the ones that fizzle and dissolve in water and drink it before you land. You will need the energy for custom lines and baggage claim!

tra

So those are all of my tips for now! Don’t worry, I have plenty more tips for packing, but that will come in a different post. 😉

I hope you got some help from this post, and if you are travelling anywhere this summer, I hope you have a fabulous trip!

Thanks for reading and join me on twitter, facebook and instagram!
